«BlackJack» mapping competition

Yeah, well, I'm gonna go start my own mapping competition, with blackjack and hookers. ;-)

  • Rule #0: game — war§ow 0.42
  • Rule #1: use only 21 visible brushes/patches
  • Rule #2: any textures and shaders can be used
  • Rule #3: use as much entities as you want
  • Rule #4: participants must provide pk3-file and map-file, send files to 50u15pec7a70r [doggie] gmail [dot] com
  • Rule#5: Q3MapStatC V0.4 will be used for checking map-files (can be found here or here)
  • Rule#6: deadline is 11.01.2009
  • Rule#7: ?
  • Rule#8: PROFIT

Now it is time to judge. Every next day at evening I will spend time only for one map like I'm going to drink a glass of good wine. Than I will write small overview. I haven't opened maps untill this day, so they were at my mail box and... I want to be suprized!

Final words.

This is the first competition I've done and I hope no one had been offended. I hope it was a good experience for all participants also. I want to congratulate our winners: SolidFake, Z (Rus) and Jerm's! They showed us what everyone can do within 21 brushes. I really regret that i can't take a part in this fight cause i have a lot of good ideas how to spend 21 brushes... :cry: Who knows, may be next time. 8-) I want to thank all participants once again for their time. Thank you and continue your mapping! But for now, the pool is closed due to AIDS. :lol:

Description: kale-21 is a fairly small 1v1 map, where you get riotgun and grenadelauncher when you spawn.
In this map you should really try to grap electrobolt as its most probably the most important weapon in this map.Items:10 x armorshards 1 x Rocketlauncher

1 x 50 hp 1 x Plasmagun

My words: Freestyle map. Good proportion, but... it is free style. A cube with boxes inside. I found a lot of tricks and some texturing bugs. Colored lighting, i like the way it is done. Very good for a starting.

needed 3 days for mapping and one for textures
bots are included but strange actingknown bugs: -When you choose a r_subdivisions value below 3, the patches will start to dissappear
— for an unknown reason the lights_trims_3_shift texture disappears when you create a pk3 out of everything, when you extract the file to your basewsw folder the texture appears
— for an unknown reason the jumppad_arrows_1_phase disappears if you don't have a totally clean Warsow folder
— you can get stuck in the wallat two specific sides of the big cylinder, to go out just walk backwards
— it yould happen that the func_bobbing pushes the quad down, to solve thisjust pick up the the quad and wait for the next spawn or restart/reload the mapthx goes to: Loxer for resetting my Clanbase account ;) , Soulspectator for making this competitionCopyright:
You may spread this map everywhere you can!
If you spread this map anywhere, do not modify the map_sf21brush1.pk3 file in any way! You have to spread it in an unchanged form.
You are not allowed to make any profit and/or money with the map_sf21brush1.pk3 file, neither burning it on a cd/dvd etc. and selling it, nor selling the file over the internet etc.
You are allowed to use the textures included in the map_sf21brush1.pk3 file, as long as you give me (SolidFake) copyright of the textures and mention my nick inside the map or/and anywhere inside your product like e.g. in the readme.
You are allowed to copy the shader files included in the map_sf21brush1.pk3 file and use them for your own works without any limitations.additional information for guys who want to use this textures/shaders etc:
If you extract the file to your mapping folder, don't overwrite the old solidfake_*.shader files! Each map contains only shaders which are necessary for the specific map.

My words: This is a map. I mean this is a very good example of what can be done within 21 brushes. I 'm surprised. This is what i was expected. I take 0.5 because of r_subdivision... :oops:

My words: Well, this map has a good idea, but bad realization. I think if VectorVanDoom spent a little bit more time he could get a really good result. Now this map can be played only with high+ settings.

My words: This map looks gorgeous! Good gameplay, good design but really bad optimization. I don't know what Z did but my laptop (P4 2Ghz, 1Gb and so on) crashed 3 times (!) before i could take screenshots. No words about playing! Even with low setting this map eats a lot of resourses. And this map has the same problem as SolidFake's one...May be tomorrow i'll check this map at desktop, but for now i can put only 4.25 and only because i can afford it. Next time i will and rule about optimization.

My words: And the last but not the least. :lol: This is a race map and it is really difficult for me to judge it cause i'm not a racer. Ok, iI will take apriory that gameplay is fine. Desing is boring. This map has good textures, but mostly i looks boring. Good layout.
